Adrenaline in Semmering: Downhill World Cup Up Close

Why I was drawn to this race

I love riding mountain bikes myself, so being at a race like this feels different from the start. You are not just watching from the outside. You know how much control, commitment, and instinct it takes to move through terrain like that at speed.

That closeness is exactly what made the Downhill World Cup in Semmering so interesting for me to photograph.

Dust, light, and being close to the action

What stayed with me most was the mix of speed and dust, especially when the light caught it. Those are the moments where a race suddenly feels almost physical even in a still image. The riders are gone in a second, but the atmosphere stays in the frame.

I like that kind of tension: fast movement, short reactions, and no room to overthink.

A personal impression with the camera

For me, this was first and foremost a personal project and a way of being close to something I enjoy anyway. At the same time, days like this always remind me how much I enjoy photographing motion, timing, and real moments as they happen.

Even when the subject changes, that part of photography stays the same.
