Veiled - a project about body positivity
The idea behind the project
This project came about together with designer Marlen Sabetzer. She approached me with an idea around body positivity: people would cover their bodies completely and show only the part of themselves they personally found most beautiful.
I liked that right away because it was not about perfection, but about a very personal way of looking at the body.
What changed through anonymity
One of the most interesting things about the shoot was how much pressure disappeared once the face was covered. There was no visual exchange in the usual sense, and suddenly people did not have to think so much about posing or expression.
That anonymity created a surprisingly calm and open atmosphere in the studio.
Visual language, look, and mood
The series is deliberately reduced and quiet. Black and white, clear light, little distraction, and a lot of focus on shape, posture, and the chosen body part. I wanted the images to feel respectful, soft, and strong at the same time.
For me, the light was there to support that feeling, not to push itself into the foreground.
What stayed with me most
What mattered most to me afterwards was how happy the participants were with the images. That was the strongest part of the whole project. If people walk away from a shoot seeing themselves with more warmth and less shame, then something important happened.
