Using Vienna as a Portrait Backdrop
Which setting feels right for you?
Vienna offers very different settings for a portrait session. Before I suggest a location, we talk about the pictures you have in mind: romantic, urban, surrounded by nature or framed by architecture. These four places show some of the possibilities.
City Hall: arcades and beautiful light
The arcades at City Hall give portraits a clear frame. I find beautiful light here even when the sky is overcast. It is a useful setting when we want architecture in the picture and the sun is not making an appearance.
Theseus Temple and the rose garden: classic and romantic
The Theseus Temple is a classic portrait location. The neighbouring rose garden offers a softer, more playful setting for romantic pictures. The two work well together, as in a couples session in central Vienna.
Donaustadt: glass and straight lines
For a more urban feel, I like working with the glass surfaces and straight lines in Donaustadt. Facades and streets give the pictures structure. This suits portraits with a more modern architectural setting.
Nasenweg at Leopoldsberg: vineyards and a view of Vienna
Another option is at the foot of Leopoldsberg. Around Nasenweg, we find ourselves among vineyards, with a lovely viewpoint over Vienna just a short walk away. It is a setting I like for combining nature with the city in the background.
