Encounters at a company summer party

This series was photographed at an internal summer party at Schloss Hunyadi in Maria Enzersdorf, near Vienna. Guests talked in the courtyard, gathered on the terrace and watched their children play. These encounters reveal something about how people in a company relate to one another.

Staying close to what is happening

I take a documentary approach to corporate events, watching conversations, glances and brief reactions. Some scenes last only a moment and would change if the people involved were interrupted for a photograph.

My aim is to follow these moments attentively. Alongside the programme, the small scenes at the edges help create a fuller memory of the evening.

Keeping the atmosphere of the evening

This was not a summer party with warm evening light throughout. It rained at times, but the guests continued to enjoy themselves. I wanted the pictures to retain that weather as part of the occasion. The castle gave the series a setting, with the people and their encounters at its centre.

Pictures that tell a story afterwards

Photographs from a company event can later support internal communication and offer a glimpse of the company culture. The unguarded moments are particularly useful for that.
