Out in the Alps
Why I keep going back to the mountains
The Alps are one of those places I keep returning to, not only because of the landscapes, but because hiking itself slows everything down. Walking for hours changes the way I look. The camera comes with me almost automatically, but the actual reason is often simply the desire to be outside and keep moving.
That is probably why these images feel personal to me in a different way than commissioned work.
What I look for there
In the mountains, I am usually drawn to quiet, distance, and a certain sense of solitude. Not emptiness in a negative sense, but the feeling that space opens up and things become simpler for a while. That is what I try to hold onto in the images.
The Alps can be powerful and dramatic, but I often like them most when they feel still.
Visual language, look, and mood
The visual language in these photos is calm, open, and reduced. Wide spaces, quiet paths, and a lot of breathing room in the frame matter more to me here than spectacle. I like images that do not push, but invite you to stay a little longer.
Maybe that is also why hiking and photography fit together so naturally for me.
What should remain after looking at them
More than anything, I hope these images make you want to go outside yourself. Not necessarily far, not necessarily high, but with that same sense of curiosity and openness. For me, that is one of the best things landscape and travel photography can do.
